Introduction
Pasión de Gavilanes ("Passion of Hawks") was a popular Colombian telenovela (soap opera) that ran for 188 episodes, from 2003 to 2004. Written by Julio Jimenez, it was produced by RTI Colombia in conjunction with the Telemundo network and with the participation of Caracol TV company. In Colombia, it was broadcast by Caracol TV. It is based on the 1994 telenovela Las aguas mansas, also written by Jiménez and produced by RTI, broadcast on Canal Uno.

The serial was so popular that it had three runs (one in primetime and two in daytime) in the United States on NBC-owned Telemundo. It has also had runs in over 100 countries-from Argentina to Romania, Georgia, Czech Republic, Malaysia and Slovakia (as Skrytá vášeň) to the Philippines (as Pasión de Amor) -and is considered one of the most successful serials ever made.
On Indonesia, this telenovela has been airing on Indosiar since 12 December 2009, initially only on Saturday night but eventually airing every Saturday and Sunday night on 11 p.m.
Pasión de Gavilanes helped establish RTI Colombia as a major force in the U.S. telenovela market. It also helped to launch several actors to stardom including Michel Brown of Argentina; Juan Alfonso Baptista of Venezuela; Paola Rey , Danna Garcia, Natasha Klauss of Colombia and Mario Cimarro of Cuba. The majority of actors from this novela would appear in other subsequent serials-Te Voy a Enseñar a Querer (2004) and La mujer en el espejo (2004) and later on Amores de Mercado (2007) and La Traición (2008) -all also produced by RTI Colombia & Telemundo. All serials aired on Telemundo can be viewed with English subtitles by setting your television’s menu options to Closed Captioning channel CC3 or C3.

Plot Summary
The plot centered around the three Reyes brothers, Juan, Oscar and Franco (played by Mario Cimarro, Juan Alfonso Baptista, and Michel Brown). Gabriela is the wife of a rich ranch owner and her husband had been having an affair with the Reyes brothers’ younger sister- Libia (played by Ana Lucía Domínguez). Libia fell in love with him and when the old hacienda owner died, she committed suicide. The Reyes brothers put the blame of the death of their sister with the Elizondo household and plot revenge with them by pretending to be construction workers/house makers in their hacienda. The Reyes brothers unexpectedly fall for the three daughters, Norma, Jimena and Sarita (played by Danna Garcia, Paola Rey, and Natasha Klauss) of the wealthy widow Gabriela Elizondo (played by veteran actress Kristina Lilley), who owns a neighboring hacienda.
The plot reaches a climax when Gabriela marries a very dangerous suitor, and a former son-in-law, Fernando Escandón (Juan Pablo Shuk). He manages to alienate Gabriela’s family, virtually take control of the estate, and spend much of her money on gambling and raucous living. Gabriela refuses to see the truth until it is too late and she soon finds herself in grave danger. The Reyes brothers must then take action.

The Reyes and their couples
Juan Reyes is a tall, strong man with shoulder length brown hair. He is the most protective, especially of Libia. He is usually quiet and calm, but when provoked he can be very impulsive. He is deeply hurt by his sister’s death, since he loved her very much. He is ready to revenge Libia’s death, by tricking Bernando’s daughters as he had done to Libia. When he meets Norma, he is amazed by her beauty and feels a connection between them. She has long light brown hair and has an exquisite face. She was raped by intruders and was forced to marry a rather insensitive man to escape family shame. She is shaken and can not accept for any man to touch her, including her husband. But when she meets Juan, all those fears go away and she falls in love with him. After many obstucules, they later marry and have a small boy, Juan David who has Norma’s pale skin and Juan’s large eyes.
Oscar Reyes is the second oldest. He is handsome, well-built and has a beautiful smile. He can be arrogant, rude and very greedy at times. But he is a good man at heart and is incredibly clever. And sometimes he schemes to get money, like for example he makes his younger brother go on dates with older, rich woman to make money. Jimena is a beautiful girl who wants to live life to the fullest and immediately takes a liking to the Reyes brothers. She truly does fall in love with Oscar and is joyed when he asks her to marry him. At first he is mostly interested in her money, but has to admit that there is something special about her. As time passes, he discovers that he loves far more than he expected to. He learns that love is much more important than money and that he would`t care if she was rich or poor as long as she was at his side.
Franco Reyes is smaller than his brothers, and is more relaxed than his family. He has blond hair, blue eyes and has a rather innocent face. People mostly do take advantage of his kindness. He is in love with Rosario a bar dancer who mostly just humiliates him. When she marries the greedy bar owner, he is crushed. Out of spite, he marries an old, rich woman who had been obsessed with him. She dies on their wedding day leaving all her money to Franco. Sarita is serious, uptight girl and manages her family’s hacienda. Although she is beautiful, she would rather be with the horses than with boys her age. But then she and Franco fall in love after many incidents between them. She later comes out of her shell and learns that she can not control who she falls in love with
Libia Reyes is a beautiful 17-year-old girl. She is quiet, sweet, rather innocent and loves her brother very much, despite their overprotective manners. She lives in a poor bario and lives a humble life. She doesn’t go out much, and it’s suggested that she never had a boyfriend before, because of her brothers’ protectiveness. When she meets Bernando Elizando, she falls in love with him despite the major age difference. Bernando lies to her, telling her that he is single and lives with his sister and three nieces. But he also falls in love with her. The Reyes brothers find out about them and they are all furious that she didn’t tell them. Especially that Bernando is much older than all of them. But when Libia gets pregnant, they allow the marriage between their sister and Bernando. Bernando dies in an accident, leaving Libia depressed and raged because of his lies. Encouraged by a nosy store owner and her sons, she goes to the Elizando mansion to talk to Bernando’s wife. She is humiliated by Gabriela Elizando, who calls her a slut and a gold digger in front of everybody. Crying hysterically, she leaves the mansion, completely humilatied. Libia then proceeds to kill herself by jumping off a bridge and falling in a lake. When her brothers find out, they are devastated and swear on their sister’s tomb that they’ll revenge her death. Later on the Reyes brothers meet Ruth, a rich girl who looks exactly like Libia. The Reyes brothers are amazed by their resemblance and consider her their adoptive little sister. Ruth represents the symbol the Reyes brothers can still hold to Libia. It is later revealed that Ruth is the Reyes’ cousin, explaining Libia and Ruth’s resemblance
