THE MUSIC OF SMALLVILLE - SEASON 4
Here’s a list of the music heard on Smallville’s fourth season. We’ve tried to identify as much of it as possible. Special thanks to everyone who helps us obtain the song information!
Ever since the Smallville pilot in 2001 featured the music of bands like Lifehouse and Coldplay, playing the popular music of the times has always been a Smallville tradition.
There have been two Smallville soundtrack albums commercially released. The first, The Talon Mix, contains music from the show’s first two seasons; the second, The Metropolis Mix, contains mostly music from Seasons Four and Five. Please keep in mind if an episode is not listed, it is possible that there was no pop music used in the show.

Kristin Kreuk was born on December 30, 1982, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She was "discovered" during her senior year of high school, when she was chosen for the role of Laurel in the CBC series Edgemont.

Kristin still resides in Vancouver, and for a few years in addition to appearing regularly on Smallville, she continued her role on Edgemont. She enjoys reading, travel, and spending time with her friends and family. You can also see Kristin on ads for Neutrogena. She has also been featured in many magazines such as FHM.

Episode 1 "Magnificent Seven "

Bracing themselves for the possibility of an apocalyptic war, Sam and Dean realize they have an enormous task of hunting down the hundreds of demons that escaped from the Devil’s Gate. With only a year left to live, Dean decides to live life to the fullest and exhibits a carefree attitude that troubles Sam, who is trying to find a loophole in the deal. Bobby tells the brothers about a sighting in Nebraska, that turns out to be seven demons that are the actual manifestations of the Seven Deadly Sins. Ruby appears for the first time and seems to be stalking Sam.

Sam learns more about his family roots and is offered a possible way to save Dean via a proposition from Ruby who appears again and shows Sam her form.

Word continues to spread of the Winchesters and the opening of a devil’s gate, with them to blame. The Winchesters suddenly find their luck rising after finding a rabbit’s foot. But Bobby tells Sam that the foot is cursed and brings death to the person who loses it. Bela Talbot appears for the first time and steals the foot from Sam, causing him a string of bad luck. Dean decides to hunt for Bela after leaving Sam in a hotel room to prevent him from doing any more damage with his bad luck. While Dean is gone Kubrick discovers Sam’s whereabouts and because he believes it’s God’s will, he attempts to kill Sam. Dean arrives just in time to prevent Sam’s death.

Fairy tales come to life when the brothers investigate Callie, a young girl who seems to personify Snow White. Callie’s father visits her constantly, reading her original Brothers Grimm stories and unknowingly inspiring her carnage. After putting her spirit to rest, Sam meets the crossroads demon named Nicole to "make a deal" - either release Dean from his bargain or die. The demon says that she doesn’t have the power to break the deal and only her boss has that ability. She then taunts Sam that letting Dean die will be good for Sam, prompting Sam to kill her.

Gordon has escaped from prison, and trades Bela a valuable item in exchange for Sam’s location. Meanwhile Dean tries to gently break the news to Sam that they’ll have to kill Gordon when they find him. Sam surprises Dean by agreeing without protest. Later, the boys realize just how badly the vampire’s new plan backfired when Gordon is turned into what he loathed most. When the boys find out Bela was responsible for Gordon finding them, Dean informs Bela the first thing he’s going to do if they survive is kill her, but she surprises him by helping him locate Gordon. Mercedes McNab guest stars.

Sam and Dean encounter a coven of witches who have been serving demons. Ruby tells Sam and Dean to get out of town while they still have the chance, but the Winchesters ignore her warning. Blood begins to spurt out of Dean’s mouth and Sam travels to the witchs’ house to stop the spell. After a near-death experience, Ruby saves Dean and they both go to help Sam. The brothers learn that Ruby was once a human witch before becoming a demon.

A maid comes into Bobby’s hotel room and finds him asleep. No one can wake him up and the doctor concludes that he just suddenly lapsed into a coma. Dean and Sam investigate this ordeal and find that he is trapped within his own mind. The boys manage to save Bobby by going into his dreams which includes Dean having to face one of his own fears (himself). Deans fear is of going to hell and becoming a demon.

Episode 11 "Mystery Spot"
Original Air Date : 14 February 2008
Sam relives the same day over and over, continually having to deal with Dean’s death. Determined to stop the time loop, he repeatedly tries to alter the day or otherwise prevent his brother’s death from ever occurring. After repeated failures, a slight change in how the day plays out tips Sam off on who the culprit really is. He confronts the man and it is revealed to be a Trickster, whom the brothers believed they had killed some time before. Sam attempts to kill him, but the Trickster ends the loop and allows the brothers to leave. The day after, Dean is shot by a mugger and dies. Distraught, Sam turns dark and seeks out the Trickster eventually finding him and begging him to save Dean. The Trickster maintains Dean’s early death is a good thing for Sam. Regardless, the Trickster agrees and Dean is brought back to life once again.

Episode 12 "Just In Bello"

Sam and Dean break into Bela’s apartment in order to get the Colt back, but she has tipped off Agent Henricksen about their whereabouts and they are arrested. While Sam and Dean are locked in a cell in Colorado, a demon breaks in and kills some of the sheriff’s men and possesses Henricksen. After the guys vanquish the demon, the FBI agent realizes they were telling the truth and prepares to release them, but Ruby shows up to a warn Sam and Dean that the jailhouse is surrounded by a band of demons with a powerful new leader who wants Sam dead. As Dean and Sam face off against the 30 demons they escape and soon find out that Lilith has returned in the form of a young girl and killed everyone in the jail.

Sam and Dean work a case at the same place where the boys from Hell Hound’s Lair, Ed Zeddmore and Harry Spengler, are shooting the pilot for their reality show "Ghost Facers." Every leap year, at midnight, a ghost who used to be a janitor at a local hospital brings people’s corpses to the Morton House for company. Their spirits remain trapped in the house as well as any living person in the house at midnight. Sam and Dean become trapped in the house with the Ghost Facers crew and must figure out how to kill the ghost as it starts hunting them one by one.

Dean receives a call from John (guest star Jeffrey Dean Morgan) telling Dean that the demon that’s holding the contract to Dean’s soul is in town, and he knows how to save Dean’s life. Sam and Dean argue because Sam distrusts the information that Dean is receiving by phone, but Dean is convinced that it’s his father and follows the advice he is given to try and save himself.

In the end, Dean is killed and sent to hell. Though devastated, Sam realizes that Lilith is powerless against him.

Here’s a list of the music heard on Smallville’s fifth season. We’ve tried to identify as much of it as possible. Special thanks to everyone who helps us obtain the song information!
Ever since the Smallville pilot in 2001 featured the music of bands like Lifehouse and Coldplay, playing the popular music of the times has always been a Smallville tradition.
There have been two Smallville soundtrack albums commercially released. The first, The Talon Mix, contains music from the show’s first two seasons; the second, The Metropolis Mix, contains mostly music from Seasons Four and Five.
Please keep in mind if an episode is not listed, it is possible that there was no pop music used in the show.
Note: There was no pop music used in episodes #17-22 of Season Five, so the lack of posting is not because of negligence, but because there really hasn’t been anything!

As first announced in this week’s TV Guide, Justin Hartley will be making an appearance in at least seven episodes of Smallville’s sixth season playing the role of Oliver Queen, better known to comic book fans as Green Arrow.

Of course, fans on the Internet, particularly those who caught the Aquaman trailer on YouTube might recognize Hartley - he played the lead role of Arthur "AC" Curry in the Aquaman TV pilot from Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators of Smallville. Sadly, the CW chose not to run with Aquaman and the show remains unaired. Chances of it ever becoming a full-fledged series are slim to none.

Justin made an appearance at the Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 22, and after his autograph signing, KryptonSite’s Craig Byrne was fortunate enough to catch up with Justin for a Q and A session. The interview follows:

What was it like to film the Aquaman pilot last season?

You know, it was great. We did some tank work, and then we did some ocean work as well. We were actually in the reef and in the oceanswimming around. It was great. It was a lot of hard work. It was really physically taxing, but nothing I couldn’t handle, and really beautiful and tranquil. It’s really interesting, looking at an aquarium as opposed to being in their environment. It’s a little freaky, but it’s fun. I swam with dolphins. That was so great, man. That was so, so fun. I would recommend that to anybody. It was a good time, to work with all those guys. They’re all professionals, like all the divers underwater and stuff, so, it’s good.

Can you talk about some of the people you worked with on Aquaman?

I’m an actor, so for me, all the actors stand out. Lou Diamond Phillips stands out. Everybody knows he’s a good actor, ’cause he’s proven that. He’s been in umpteen million films and stuff, and everyone knows he’s good. But it’s interesting, because there’s a certain quality about his acting that comes through, I think. And it’s a likability, an endearing quality about his acting that comes through. And it’s really interesting, when you get to know him, you realize that that is him. It’s him coming through. I mean, he is the nicest - maybe the single nicest man I’ve ever met in my life. And he’s genuine. He’s such a good, good person.

Ving Rhames stands out to me also, just because he’s got great presence. He’s a fun guy too, and he’s got a lot of insight in the business.

Greg Beeman, I thought, did a great job. He’s always moving the camera, and he’s always trying to help you out, and one of the best directors I’ve worked with, I think. I really enjoyed him.

What was your reaction when you learned that the Aquaman pilot was not picked up as a series?

I would say that I was not disappointed, but I think that’s lying, because I was really looking forward to doing it. I got over it pretty quickly, not because it didn’t sting, but because of this business you deal with situations like that a lot, and if you take the time to feel sorry for yourself, then the people who are nipping at your heels are going to pass you, and end up getting all your other jobs. So you’ve got to work. You’ve got to get back to work, get another job. You don’t have time to feel sorry for yourself. So there was a moment of "oh, man," just because it was so much hard work, and I really thought we - I still do think that it just could have been really great. It really could have been great. There were a lot of stories to be told, and Miles and Al worked so hard on it. We all worked so hard on it.

So it was disappointing in that sense, but then you move on and, what are you gonna do, you know what I mean?

You then went on to do a movie this summer, is that right?

I’m actually filming it right now. I’m doing Spring Breakdown with Rachel Dratch and Amy Pohler, Parker Posey, and Missy Pyle.

What was the audition process like for Green Arrow?

They called me, and offered it to me, and wanted me to do it. So that was exciting. That was good, not to have to jump through any hoops. Because usually in acting, you have to go step by step.

Are they going to make you grow a goatee?

I don’t know. I haven’t heard any word of that yet.

So you haven’t started filming yet?

I haven’t started filming. I start filming, I think, at the beginning of August.

Is your Green Arrow anything like A.C., or is he more like Fox Crane [from Passions], or any other roles you have played before?

I think there’s always going to be some part of me that comes through, in the characters that I play. That’s a good question. He might have a little bit in common with A.C., in the cocky area maybe a little bit, you know, and a little bit in common with Fox Crane I guess, but definitely his own guy. I’ve gotta tell you, man. I am so looking forward to playing this part, because I think it’s gonna be so fun to play a guy who’s a rogue. It’s a great part, you know.

Do you know anything about Ollie’s background on Smallville?

I know that they’re using some of the original mythology, the CEO, the billionaire, that kind of thing. Obviously with the arrows, the archer, and his talent, with regards to that. He comes to Smallville to unite the Justice League, I know that. And there’s going to be a love interest; it’s going to be Lois Lane. I wish I could tell you more, but honestly, I haven’t seen anything yet. I just had a conversation with Al about it a little bit, and it seems like it’s gonna be pretty fun.

Were you familiar with Aquaman or Green Arrow comics before taking the roles?

Before I took the roles, I was more familiar with Aquaman, I think, than I was Green Arrow. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s just because I have a lot of friends who are really heavy into comic books and stuff, and I think maybe they were Aquaman people. Maybe I was just around it more. But I’ve been reading up on him, and I’ve been doing my mythology homework, so, I’ll be ready to go.

Why should your legions of fans who know your work from Passions watch Smallville?

I think without me, Smallville’s a good show. I think Smallville is worth watching, just because I think that the actors on there do a good job. I’m a big fan of Rosenbaum. He’s a great actor, isn’t he? And you know, playing Superman is not very easy to do, and the way that it’s done on Smallville, I think [Tom] does a good job too. I think it’s a good show. I think it’s well written. I think it’s a fun show. It’s a fun hour of television.

I am looking forward to getting on the show, for one reason, is just so that I’m back on television again. Because here I’ve been doing all this stuff since I left Passions. I’ve got a couple of movies that I did, I did a pilot, and I’ve got all this work in, that no one’s been able to see. As far as anyone else knows, it’s like, you left the show 7 months ago and you’re gone. So nobody knows I’ve been doing all this work. So it’ll be fun to get back on the screen.

It’s gonna be neat. I think that they should watch it because they’ve only seen me play one character, essentially, on a soap opera. Which, there’s nothing wrong with that, but I’m curious to show them another character, another side. I think that would be fun.

Does Ollie Queen have any history with Lex Luthor, and will they be interacting?

They do. They share a secret, from boarding school. Yeah, so they should be interacting. I hope to work with him. He can show me a couple things. He’s very good. Very talented.

Is it difficult to shoot a series out of town, since your wife is still doing Passions in L.A.?

I have experience in it. I shot the pilot in Miami, and I think it was six weeks. My wife’s not a big fan of staying away. She came almost every weekend. But this is going to be good, because they’re not consecutive episodes, and I’m going to have a chance to go back and forth. I mean, preferably, yeah, I would shoot it in my backyard, and be able to see my daughter whenever I wanted, but that’s just not the way it is.

If Al and Miles came to you and asked if you were interested in a Green Arrow spin-off, would you?

I’d be interested. I think those guys are great, and I think if they came to me and said "Hey Justin, we’re interested in having--" I would probably say "yeah, okay, fine, sure." And then try to figure out what they were asking me. I’m behind those guys 100 percent. I believe in what they do, and I think they’re good at what they do, and I think they’re passionate about what they do. You see the product. I like Smallville. I think it’s a good show. And that’s their baby, so the proof is in the pudding, right?

But if they said "spin-off" I would say, "Where do I sign?"

Your daughter’s middle name (Isabella Justice Hartley) - where did she get it? It’s interesting, what with you playing a character who’s getting together the Justice League...

It’s funny that you bring that up, because my mother in law brought it up. She got the name, because Lindsay wanted my name in there somewhere, and it’s a girl, so we couldn’t really have "Justin" in there, and I didn’t want "Justine," because I think Justine’s a first name, more than a middle name. And so, we just chose Justice. Which is kind of what my name means, I guess.

Do you find it to be better to be working on a show that’s a proven success, over doing a pilot?

Yeah, the thing didn’t get picked up! [Laughs] I don’t know. I think a good response to that would be, it’s less stressful. It’s less pressure. Because when you go to work, you’re worrying about your work. You’re not worrying about the business side of it, which I’m not on the business side of it, but when you’re doing a pilot, it kind of creeps into your head a little bit, which I’m just not good at. It’s less stress, I would say.

It’s amazing. It really, really is wonderful.

Itu menakjubkan. Sungguh, sangat menyenangkan.

Justin Hartley was born in 1977 and became known to TV audiences for his role as Nicholas Foxworth Crane on the NBC serial Passions. Following his departure from Passions Justin was signed to star in a TV series based on the DC Comics character Aquaman. The pilot was produced and created by Smallville creators Alfred Gough & Miles Millar, but sadly did not get a place on the CW’s schedule. The pilot did make its way to iTunes where it did very, very well.

Even though Aquaman didn’t swim the producers were impressed enough with Hartley that they cast him for a multi-episode role in Smallville Season Six as Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow.

Justin met his wife, Lindsay, while working on Passions. Lindsay still is a regular actor on that series. Justin and Lindsay have a daughter, the well-named Isabella Justice Hartley.
